Why would I need Champion Sprayon® Roof Accessories Paint?

In a growing number of communities, new construction building codes require that any pipes extending through the roof must approximate the roof color. These paints have been formulated to match the most common roof colors. They provide one-coat, rust-resistant camouflage of flashing, vents, soil stacks and other roof accessories. They can be used on metal, vinyl, and PVC. They should NOT be used on asphalt shingles.

When should the paint be applied?

This paint should be applied early in the morning before the sun has heated the roof. For best results, use only when the temperature is 65F (18C) or greater. Make sure the can of paint is not left on the roof after application. Exposure to heat or prolonged exposure to sun may cause bursting. Also, it should not be left inside a car or truck if the temperature goes higher than 120F (49C). These spray paints (as all spray paints) should be kept from heat, sparks and open flame.

What is the best way to get a nice surface?

Surface preparation is the key. Make sure the surface is free of dirt, grease, wax, mold, mildew, or moisture. Please take special care with removing peeling paint. Old paint may contain lead. If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. For more information about removing old paint, contact the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD (5323) or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.

What is the best way to apply spray paint?

First, use a drop cloth to protect the surrounding area from spray mist. Then, shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball rattles to prevent any clogging. Hold the can about 12 inches from the surface. Then, press the spray button firmly, spraying in steady, even strokes. Shake the can intermittently as you spray.

Can a second coat be applied?

Yes. If recoating is desired, it should be done after 15 minutes.

What should I use for clean up?

For cleanup on inanimate surfaces, mineral spirits, paint thinner, or toluene can be used.
